for his own TV program Gehört und gesehen.
This recording is confirmed to be free from errors. However, since
ARTE provider doesn't broadcast in DVD standards, you might have
problems while watching it in your DVD standalone.
*The resolution is 544*576, but has been patched to 720*576 to fit
in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Most of the people won't have problems, but
some will, so please burn on a DVD-RW before to figure if your DVD
player is OK with that.

I received this many years ago on VHS and was always impressed with the quality. It has since remained my favorite jazz music video and it was one of the first items I transferred to DVD when I acquired a standalone DVD burner. I made a simple menu to enable moving front and back among the tracks. I have not compared this item, acquired via trade, with other "commercial bootleg" issues, but am sure it would compare favorably to nearly anything that was copied directly from the station master, as picture and sound degradation is minimal.

This is only a small part of the show, re-broadcasted by WDR 3 in 1991.
I don`t know, whether there is a complete version by SDR available anywhere.
But the complete show would be too big for my conncetion anyway...
This is a PAL version. I want keep the quality of the video.
When I converted it to NTSC, there were horizontal stripes and the sound was a bit out of sync. So I think, most people are more happy with the unconverted version.

This is the probably the earliest extant recording of Wayne Shorter with the Davis Quintet. Shorter joined the Quintet in Los Angeles on September 4. Broadcast on The Steve Allen Show, installments of the show were pre-recorded. According to the UCLA Film Archive, the show with Debbie Reynolds (and "No Blues") was recorded on September 10 and broadcast on September 22; the show with Burt Reynolds (and "So What" and "All Blues") was recorded on September 11 and broadcast on September 25.

This is for the Miles Davis completist. Its the only video I have seen with the 9et and a mustachioed Miles Davis during the 70s. Video quality is generated and washy, but stable. Sound is cool, but lacks any audience. 10min of this has floated around on TTD but, as far as I know, this is the most complete version of this performance to see the light of day.

Notes:
There was a version of this show seeded on dime sometime ago, but in quite bad
quality and in NTSC format. This seed is definitely an upgrade to that version.
I also know another version going around, which comes from the same broadcast
as the NTSC version, but the quality is much better. I only have that version
in avi format, but the avi is still way better than the NTSC DVD. Both these videos
show "schegge" in the left bottom of the screen and come from a RAITRE broadcast.
This version however comes from a RAISAT Album broadcast between 1999 and 2003
(the channel only existed for four years). I've never seen this version around,
so I consider this a "new" source. I got this show in a trade from Lisardo (thanks!)
with on the same disc an audience shot Al Di Meola concert. I cut off the Di Meola
part, and what was left over was the full 36 minute broadcast with breaks between
tracks, during which studio commentary was given by two Italian tv presenters.
These breaks where quite annoying (they are only interesting if you speak Italian
and know nothing about Miles Davis) so I cut them out too. I created fade ins/outs
between tracks, because the transitions where too abrupt, and I created chapter
entries and a simple menu. All this editing was done with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.
No re-encoding happenned, except for fadeing in and out parts.
Something that annoyed me was the low volume of the music. The audio stream was AC3,
so I looked for a way to losslessly change the gain for an AC3 file, like mp3gain
can do with an mp3 file. Unfortunately no such program exists. Theoretically it is
possible to losslessly change AC3 gain, but no one has ever written a program for it.
The result is a show with very nice picture quality, but with very low audio volume.
Compared to my avi "schegge" version, this looks definitely better. Furthermore we
get to see a little more of the concert, because during the credits the musicians
stay visible, which is not the case in the "schegge" version.
I don't know if this comes from a first generation DVD or VHS. The picture isn't
particularly sharp and has small digital artifacts. The reason for this could just be
the fairly low bitrate, but it's possible that this is already a re-encoded version.

The story is Miles had a stomach problem and missed the flight in Paris after
a doctor prescribed medication he recovered and the promoters flew him to Molde
in a private jet, due to his late arrival the band did not take the stage untill very late
after the concert footage is a backstage interview with Terje Mosnes

can look really bad on them unless your DVD-player or Blu-ray player supports "upscaling "
(upscaling is sort of like a line doubler and increases line resolution to about 1080 lines
so it should look like it used to on your old TV
**note** it won't turn it into something it isn't but should be as good or bad as it was on your
old TV if you are in the market for one make sure it has " upscaling "

at the Beethoven Saal in Stuttgart Germany on December 18 1957
the video is mostly taken from a story about the bass player Peter Witte where
they showed around 80 or 90 seconds from the concert of the band playing "Walkin"
now synced to the audio from a swedish bootleg disc used with some additional video
from a different source plus around 20 seconds of a YouTube poorer quality video to
fill in some gaps this is the most complete known version in decent quality
**note** any additions or corrections of the Erwin Lehn Big band members is welcome

Claude Nougaro opening a concert at Le Zenith in Paris while Claude is singing they
show B&W photos of early jazz bands and also some footage of Miles Davis being
driven to the concert in a limosine and then arriving and entering the venue
chapter 02
Claude introduces Miles Davis and he enters and plays a shortened version of the start
of Claudes song " Armstrong " but not in the style of Louis Armstrong as it is played
on the record, after which Miles leaves the stage and Claude sings the song
chapters 03 > 09
Miles Davis Group synced to a soundboard tape not the best quality but so far it
is the best we have and better than the matrix version there is some phasing which
is most noticable in the audience applause.
The video had some glitches and a small section of "Star People" and also the end
part "Portia" was replaced with other grabs from the video also "Burn" was cut part
of the way through and grabs were used to replace the missing footage in sync with the
audio .... my opinion is ...... the fills are so good very few people will even notice
** LCD and PLASMA TV users *** old generated videos or even decent video
can look really bad on them unless your DVD-player or Blu-ray player supports "upscaling "
(upscaling is sort of like a line doubler and increases line resolution to about 1080 lines

Miles Davis Sextet at the Electric Factory in 1970 B&W video filmed with a single camera in the projection booth
(possibly this was the video feed for the green room & press box like Bill Graham was doing at the Fillmore East
& Fillmore West except he used 2 cameras and had a vision mixer)
Now synced to a soundboard audio the camera did not handle movement or low light very well
but it is very watchable
***note*** there was no audio for 3 minutes from 9 > 12 mins during "Directions" rather than delete
any of this rare video a good match was found from the same place in the song at a show around this
time at (Paterson or Petersburg in New Jersey late 1970) and patched in
Also "It's About That Time" cut out just before the end of Miles solo and cut in just after the theme of "Funky Tonk"
was played before Gary Bartz solo. To make them more complete about 15 seconds for each was used from the
Fillmore West Oct 15,17 1970 shows to complete the solo and include the main theme for "Funky Tonk"
my opinion is as the audio mix changes through out the show a few might notice the 3 mins in "Directions" but
hardly anyone will ever notice the "It's About That Time" end and start of "Funky Tonk" is from the Fillmore West
the fix is quite seamless
** LCD and PLASMA TV users *** old generated videos can look really poor
on them unless your DVD-player or Blu-ray player supports " upscaling "
upscaling is sort of like a line doubler and increases line resolution
to about 1080 lines so it should look like it used to on your old TV
**note** it won't turn it into something it isn't but should be as good
or as bad as it was on your old TV not worse, so if you are in the market
for one make sure it has "upscaling"

Total length: approximately 29 mins
The entire show was approximately 90 minutes. A part of the first set of this
show was broadcast on NHK TV, Japan's national public broadcasting organization,
as 'Miles Davis in Concert', Part I and Part II.
Between approximately 15:30 and 20:45, there are various discussions and interviews
in Japanese, and some photos and fragments of interviews with Miles. In his discography,
Enrico Merlin mentions that detailed information about Pete Cosey's instruments is
given here ("a Fender Telecaster, a Gibson Les Paul with tremolo bar, an autoharp,
cowbells, agogo bells, plastic castanetas and other assorted percussion"). There
seems to exist a broadcast without the interfering discussions and interviews,
although I have never seen it on any trade list.
The sound is quite good, but the image quality isn't perfect, although it's much
better than on some of the other videos from 1973. At times, at the end, the sound
and image drops out, which shows that this was taken from a VHS recording.
